Economic Factors
1763-1775
Britain had lost numerous amounts of money during the French & Indian war, so they taxed the colonists to re-finance
Leading To War
General Colonial Reaction "Three years after the repeal of the Townshend Duties British policy was once again to emerge as an issue in the colonies. This time the American reaction was not peaceful. It all started when Parliament for the first time granted an exemption from the Navigation Acts." -Ben Baack, (Source: Economic Historical Association)
Women & BoycottingMen encouraged boycotts, yet women were in charge of buying provisions for the house, thus they were the ones conducting boycotts. They boycotted goods such as tea, and clothing "We join with the very respectable Body of Merchants and other Inhabitants of this Town, who met in Faneuil-Hall the 23d of this Instant, in their Resolutions, totally to abstain from the Use of TEA...." -Excerpt from "Boston Ladies' Boycott Agreement," 12 February 1770 "Remember too women's important role in the pre-war resistance movement by their involvement in commercial boycotts of tea and other goods imported from Britain, including cloth."- Mary Beth Norton, Historian
